Opinion and Reviews is an affinity fellowship of Rock the Word, the Writers Ministry of the Rock Church in San Diego.

We want to gather writers who will engage and challenge the Rock community by presenting thoughtful, intelligent and respectful opinion editorials, essays, and reviews.

A friend recently told me at a dinner party, "I think Jesus was a great moral teacher, but this stuff about him being God or God's Son is ridiculous."

I wasted no time in my reply. "If Jesus really was a mere man as you say then he was no great moral teacher at all. In fact he was a big jerk."

It was a beautiful, crisp morning when I attended the first service of the day at the Rock Church on Sunday, April 26th. It was also to be an auspicious morning as we were honored to have as our guest-Miss California Carrie Prejean. This lovely lady was the Miss USA pageant contestant who answered the question from Judge Perez Hilton at the Las Vegas contest last weekend.

Afterwards, the repercussions and accusations flew far and wide. Both Carrie and Perez became the object of bloggers and Twitter's ire and heated discussion regarding gay marriage, and indirectly-the still festering Prop. 8 debate.

I was driving to Trader Joe's during the noon service last week when I found the last parking place near the store. A big white vehicle pull in ahead of me. A parking attendant was nearby. I listened as he asked the woman where she was going. She said she was going to church. When the attendant pointed out that she couldn't park there, she changed her story. "I am going to Trader Joe's."
